Alachua County Driver Pulled over for Speeding
An Alachua Police Department Officer observed a vehicle traveling on State Road 25 at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his radar and received a reading that the vehicle was traveling at 75 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver of the vehicle. The officer stated he noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, bloodshot watery eyes and that the driver was very talkative. The officer requested that the driver perform field sobriety exercise, which the driver refused to perform. The officer placed the driver under arrest for driving under the influence second offense and transported him to the Alachua County Jail where he requested that the driver provide a breath sample. The driver refused to provide a breath sample while at the jail. The driver was additionally charged with refusal to sign the DUI citation.
